This report summarises the careers support activity within HENW from 2012 to 2014. The change in delivery of healthcare and the increasing diversity of opportunities available to doctors makes career management skills an important aspect of their professional skill set, in turn supporting them to deliver the most effective and safest care.
In the North West, strategic objectives have been met within an increasingly tight budgeting climate. Capitalising on existing careers support skills and supporting the development of local individuals with enthusiasm to support trainees has proved fruitful, both in the extension of provision available and containing central careers costs. Standards achieved compare very positively with other regions of HEE and the four nations, as well as matrix standards and Academy of Medical Educator standards.
