Centre for Mental Health, January 2017
This briefing paper provides a summary of the policy and legislation relating to mental health carers’ assessments in England, and the results of exploratory research. Informal interviews were used to elicit the opinions of a number of individuals from NHS trusts, local authorities, and carers themselves. The report recommends that further research is needed to fill the gap in literature that exists, in order to highlight the current barriers to effective implementation of the Care Act and to champion the need for carers to be adequately supported by statutory bodies.
